No one hurt in latest crash on 'Cynthia's Corner'

LORANE, Ore. - Eve Nickle and her mom, Cynthia, were cleaning house on Cottage Grove Lorane Road when an unloaded log truck overturned and crashed Monday morning.

Eve called 911 while Cynthia, an EMT with the Lorane Rural Fire District, went to check on the driver, who was OK.

"It's called 'Cynthia's Corner' because everyone tends to wreck on my mom's corner, pretty much in this general area," Eve said.

"There's probably at least an accident a year - not all log trucks, but pickup trucks, and those mailboxes over there have been taken out several times," Cynthia Nickle said.

She has come to know the sound well.

"It's the usual sound of a freight train kind of crashing, and then we're like, uh oh, must be another log truck," Cynthia said, "so, we just called 911, and I came out."

She capped the radiator fluid leaking from the truck and took the driver's vital signs as they waited for first responders to arrive.

"She's really lucky," Cynthia said of the driver.
