Bethel Indian Education Consortium meeting rescheduled to April 3

The Bethel School District's Title VII Indian Education Consortium annual public hearing, scheduled for March 21st, was cancelled due to inclement weather. 

The hearing has been rescheduled. 

The new date is April 3, 2012,  6:00 p.m., at the Lane Education Service District Campus. 

The purpose of this meeting is to gather input for the 2012-13 formula grant application.

The consortium includes Bethel, Crow-Applegate-Lorane, Creswell, Fern Ridge, Junction City, Lowell, Pleasant Hill and South Lane school districts.

Country Fair tickets available online April 1 to April 15

The Oregon Country Fair (OCF) has announced the return of its early online ticket option.

Beginning Sunday, April 1, fairgoers will be able to purchase admission and parking tickets exclusively through TicketsWest.com for the three-day festival, which happens July 13-15 west of Eugene, Ore. The online pre-sale tickets will be available on a limited basis through Sunday, April 15.
 
Those who purchase more than $50 in admission and parking tickets during the early sale event will receive a voucher for a free 2012 Oregon Country Fair poster, redeemable at the event.
 
Fairgoers who purchase $125 in admission and parking tickets will receive a free commemorative t-shirt – a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art created by the user. Shirts are silk screened, tied and ready to be dyed at the Squirt-A-Shirt interactive booth at the fair. For $150 in purchases, fairgoers will receive both a t-shirt and a poster.
 
This year’s fair, which marks the year of the dragon, will feature 17 stages of entertainment, more than 80 food booths and nearly 350 craft booths featuring more than 700 vendors. Vaudeville, circus acts, spoken word, wandering musicians, face painting, Peachi the dragon, parades and many other fair favorites will return this year. Fairgoers are sure to find a surprise around every bend in the path.

Title VII Indian Education Consortium public hearing March 21

The Bethel School District's Title VII Indian Education Consortium will hold its annual public hearing at 6 p.m.,  March 21, 2012. 

The purpose of this meeting is to gather input for the 2011-12 formula grant application.

The consortium includes Bethel, Crow-Applegate-Lorane, Creswell, Fern Ridge, Junction City, Lowell, Pleasant Hill and South Lane school districts.

The meeting will be held at Lane Education Service District, 1200 Highway 99 North, Eugene.

Covered Bridge Regatta expands to 2 days

A local regatta that attracts hundreds of rowers and more than 30 rowing clubs from around the Pacific Northwest to Dexter Reservoir has expanded to 2 days for its 18th year.
 
Due to increased popularity, Covered Bridge Regatta has been extended to two days this year:  Saturday, April 14, and Sunday, April 15, 2012. 

Racing on Saturday begins at 7:30 a.m. and continues all day, then starts up again on Sunday at 8 a.m.

Cottage Grove hosts Oregon Gran Fondo bike ride June 2

Bicyclists of all abilities will gather in Cottage Grove the weekend of June 2 for competition and recreational riding at The Oregon Gran Fondo.

Elite and recreational bicyclists will participate in a traditional European event that includes a variety of courses and social riding alongside competitive, chip-timed racers.

In addition to rides through countryside and forests, the event features charity breakfasts, free camping for registrants at Bohemia Park in historic downtown Cottage Grove, an expo, raffles and prizes, and post-ride refreshments including a beer garden.

Gran Fondo traditionally means "big ride." It originated in France and Italy where bicyclists of all ages were invited to ride a stage of one of the professional grand tours, such as the Tour de France.

Rotary gets report on Malaysia March 1

Cottage Grove Rotary Club will host Pam Reber, Executive Director of the Coast Fork Willamette Watershed Council, on March 1, 2012, at Stacy's Covered Bridge restaurant at noon.

Buffet lunch will be available for $10.
 
Reber's presentation will be Group Study Exchange Team Report of Rotary Foundations Sponsored Study in Malaysia.

Patriot Guard Riders assemble in memory of Dave Wheeler

The Patriot Guard Riders have been asked to stand a flagline and honor the service of Army Veteran CW4 Dave Wheeler.

Wheeler served from 1957 - 1977 and retired from the military. He served in Vietnam.

At the time of his passing, he was the Post Commander for the American Legion Post 32.

The riders planned to stage at 123 South 7th, Cottage Grove (corner of 7th and West Adams) at 9 a.m. with the flagline set for 9:45 a.m. ahead of the 10:30 a.m. services.

Services at the cemetery are scheduled for 2 p.m.
